WhatsApp In-App Dialer Will Allow You To Make Calls Directly(2024). WhatsApp, the popular Meta-owned instant messaging platform, is apparently, developing a new feature that will allow users to call directly from within the app without the need to save contacts in the address book.
WhatsApp will soon allow you to dial numbers and place calls directly from the app.

Information about this update.

Meta-owned instant messaging platform WhatsApp is testing an endemic dialer in the Android app. The dialer will allow users to dial phone numbers to initiate a call directly within the app without making it necessary to save the contact details in the address book first. For the unprepared, the current public version of the instant messaging app does not have a provision for direct calling despite support for both voice and video calls over the Internet. According to WhatsApp update tracker WABetaInfo, select users can access a floating call action button within the Calls tab. On tapping the button, users can dial a number that is not saved in the address book through the app. Additionally, a message shortcut has been added to the in-app dialer to let users send a message instead of calling after dialing the number. Users are also notified if the selected number is registered on WhatsApp to let them know if WhatsApp can be used for that number.

The in-app dialer is available currently to only select beta users who use the updated version 2.24.13.17 of the app. WABetaInfo, a known WhatsApp tipster publication, discovered the new in-app dialer feature in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.13.17 update, which is available on the Google Play Store. According to the publication, the above feature was first tested in the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.9.28 update in April 2024.

“This feature allows users to make calls directly, without adding contacts to their address book or manually opening a conversation. Additionally, after entering a phone number, users can quickly save it to the address book as a new contact or add it to an existing contact card,” the WABetaInfo report said.

Besides this, WhatsApp has also introduced a “Messaging Shortcut” within the dialer screen. This nifty feature allows users to swiftly switch from dialing to messaging, all within the same app. It’s a small but significant addition that further enhances the user experience.

“This feature can add a new layer of convenience to the calling experience as it offers users increased efficiency in initiating calls directly from the app. Users can initiate calls faster, without the intermediate steps of saving contacts or searching for specific conversations, making the process easier for new interactions. Users can also choose to save important numbers instantly to the address book while entering phone numbers within the in-app dialer, ensuring that important contacts are readily accessible,” the report added.

Conclusion

Additionally, this feature also notifies users if the entered phone number is registered on WhatsApp, enabling them to know instantly whether they can use WhatsApp for that contact. Currently, the feature is available to some beta testers who install the latest updates of WhatsApp beta for Android from the Google Play Store. However, WhatsApp has yet to confirm when it will officially make the feature available to the public.
In related news, WhatsApp is also working on redesigning the status update section on the Android app to make it easier for users to preview status without losing the option to view profile pictures of the contact that has posted it. The Meta-owned instant messaging platform has been working on revamping the design interface for the status update tray, but this is the first time the layout and other design elements have been available on the beta release.
